Questa chiave descrive quale tipo (o quali tipi) di sport è praticato in una certa caratteristica. Dato che è un tag non fisico, deve essere combinato con uno dei seguenti tag fisici a seconda del caso:

• leisure=sports_centre
• leisure=stadium
• leisure=track (atletica, ciclismo, sport motoristici, equitazione...)
• leisure=pitch
• leisure=golf_course (golf, podismo, camminata...)
• leisure=water_park
• leisure=swimming_pool (nuoto, tuffi, ginnastica...)
• landuse=recreation_ground
• landuse=piste (sci, escursionismo, paragliding...)
• tourism=hotel (nuoto, golf, tennis...)
• amenity=restaurant (bowling...)
• amenity=pub (biliardo, freccette, flipper...)
• ...

Nonostante molti di questi tag siano renderizzati anche da soli, una combinazione con un tag fisico è molto incoraggiata per evitare fraintendimenti. Quando ci sono molti sport praticati in un ambiente (un centro sportivo per esempio), questi possono essere etichettati separandoli con punto e virgola (;), ad esempio sport=soccer;football;rugby. Le strutture per lo sport al chiuso dovrebbero essere anche etichettatte con building=*.
