Proposal
A self-service kiosk is an interactive kiosk which allow customers to look for information and/or pay for services.
Self-service kiosks "have been embraced by retail, foodservice, and hospitality to improve customer service and streamline operations. Interactive kiosks are typically placed in the high foot traffic settings such as shops, hotel lobbies, or airports."[1].
It is proposed to map self-service kiosks as a node.
Rationale
Self-service kiosks are increasingly popular and an important part of customer experience in daily routines such as going for shopping, travelling and ordering food.
Customers may have a preference for using self-service kiosks due to a number of personal, social, health, or disabilities related issues. For example, people with social-anxiety, muteness may prefer to avoid human contact when ordering food or looking for information. Besides, people may prefer to use self-service kiosks due to time related issues, such as their usage taking less time them interacting with an employee or waiting in line to interact with one.
On the other side, customers may have reasons to not want to use a self-service kiosk such as having a hard-time understanding their usage, having special needs or requests that need to be voiced to an employee or that are not easiely or satisfatiorialy performed by a self-service kiosk.
Futhermore, self-service kiosks usually do not accept money bills as payment for the services offered, which may restrict their usage for people without other mean of payment avaiable.
The increase in the implementation of self-serive kiosks sometimes leads to a decrease or complete elimination of options for getting the same services offered by them though the interaction with an employee.
Considering the issues mentioned above it is believed that it is relevant to map self-service kiosks to allow people with special needs and other limiting factors to be able to evaluate with a place with customer service is suitable for their needs or requiring and paying for a service. It is also belived that the addition of this tag will be beneficial to existing and future indoor tagging projects.
Self-service kiosk are verifiable throught on-site verification/tagging and throught the use of public avaiable photos of certain places, as can be the case with other elements of indoor tagging.
Given the small number of tags specific to indoor tagging own needs and challenges, the proposed tag could improve the number of elements and information avaiable on OSM through Indoor Tagging.
Usage
Possible Confusion with already existing tags
It is believed that there could be some confusion with already existing tags of the vending category, such as vending
=admission_tickets , vending= lottery, vending =parking_tickets, vending public_transport_tickets
.The confusion could be due to the misconception or belief that some of some or all of the vending machines used in the activities of the above tags are also self-service kiosks.
Considering the OSM ddefinition of a vending machine as "a machine which dispenses items after the customer inserts money."[2], it is believed that the main difference from a vending machine to a self-service kiosk is that the self-service kiosk covered by this proposal do not dispense products bought though the usage of the self-service kiosk but instead dispence receits, tags, or access passes (such as hotel keys and boarding passes) of services paid for thought them or thought other means.
