A roadworks hazard indicates there may be workers on the roadway. Road workers may not be fully aware of the vehicles around them. Drivers should be extra cautious.
How to map
Please be aware that it is good OSM practice to avoid mapping temporary events/features.
If roadworks are not going to take a significant amount of time (e.g. only a small number of weeks), it is better to avoid mapping the temporary situation during the roadworks. This applies to the traffic situation in general, not just to this tag.
Tagging can be applied to the affected section of road, as well as the location of the signage:
- Add hazard=roadworks to a
traffic_sign=hazard that warns for the roadworks. Alternatively, use a country-specific code for traffic_sign=* (see below for examples).
- Add hazard=roadworks to the section of
highway=* where the roadworks occur. If the end of roadworks is also marked with a traffic sign, continue hazard=roadworks until that sign, otherwise use common sense.
