A pillory on Wikipedia is a construction designed to immobilitate and humiliate a person who was convicted in lower courts. Many remaining pillories consist of a pillar to which wristcuffs, a neckcuff, and a boulder (made of iron or stone) were attached. Pillories came out of use when the auhorities realized that monetary penalties are more profitable.
