what exactly is the difference? I see the pictures are different, but I miss the point. It is material, or position? Something else? --Jakubt (talk) 17:05, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
There's no difference, plate (and memorial:type) shouldn't be used per Key:memorial. The RedBurn (talk) 09:33, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
plaque is a subtype of plate. Every plaque is a plate, while not every plate is a plaque. --Dieterdreist (talk) 12:19, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
While the above statement is correct, in this context however it seems to mean the same thing. Chrabros (talk) 06:08, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
Have a look at this for example, would you call it a "plaque"? Warsaw University Library - memorial plate--Dieterdreist (talk) 10:17, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
No. But I would not call it plate either. It seems more like wall with inscription. Chrabros (talk) 10:46, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
It is a big plate, made of tiles, and who uploaded it thought it would be a plate. There are more plates that won't fit the idea of a plaque, typically large ones.--Dieterdreist (talk) 11:55, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
It's true that it may not be intuitive, like for Tag:historic=monument vs Tag:historic=memorial (a lot of so called "monuments" in Belgium have to be tagged as memorial). As for plate vs plaque, since I'm not a native English speaker, I limit myself to what I find on the wiki. It has probably been discussed on the tagging mailing list.
